Tom Creavy, a 20-year-old prodigy, defeated Denny Shute 2&1 in the match-play final to win the 1931 PGA Championship at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, Rhode Island. Creavy became the second-youngest winner of the PGA Championship, just two months older than Gene Sarazen, who had won the title in 1922 at the same age. Creavy had also defeated Sarazen in the semifinals, 5&3.
